Run for office

Local government needs leaders like you. If you’re not sure where to get started, you can connect with organizations from both sides of the aisle to attend a training, join a cohort of other candidates, or just to learn more about what it takes to run a successful campaign.

Remember– there are SO MANY elected positions you may be qualified for! You can help rally voters and nominate leaders within your party as a Committeewoman… or advance environmental justice through the construction of safe waterways on the Water Reclamation District Board. If you are passionate about serving your community, there’s an elected office for you!

Get involved with local campaigns and politics

From infrastructure to immigration, criminal justice reform to the climate crisis, almost every political issue trickles down to decisions being made at the local and state level. It’s up to each of us to stay informed and hold our leadership accountable: the future of our communities belongs to all of us.

Here’s how you can stay active, engaged, and informed:

  • Do you know who represents you? See a list of your local electeds by entering your address here. Set a goal for yourself: in the next month, can you attend an event or office hours for one of your representatives?
  • Do you know who’s currently running for State Representative in your district? How about Sheriff? You can research and save your sample ballot in the leadup to every election right here. And as a bonus: if you find a local candidate that inspires you, make a donation or offer to volunteer!
  • What are the issues of greatest concern for your town, your neighborhood, your block? Most of us can answer this question at the national and state level, but if you’re not tuned into what’s at stake in your hyper-local community, attend a public meeting. Sign up for newsletters from your elected officials. Join your block club. Talk to your neighbors, educate yourself, and get advocating.

Educate yourself about policy solutions

Women are running for office in America in greater numbers than ever before in our country’s history.

But it’s not enough. Systemic barriers and cultural biases still deter qualified women from running in the first place, subject them to greater scrutiny when they do step forward, and continue to plague women once elected.

In order to achieve parity in our lifetimes, we must advocate for systems and policies to help level the playing field.

Screening FAQs

Are screenings in 2020 virtual or in-person?

Until public health guidelines allow for larger in-person gatherings, we are mostly encouraging virtual screenings of the film through one of our online platforms.

For theatrical screenings or other distribution inquiries, please contact our partners at Music Box Films.

Do I need to be affiliated with a major organization to host a screening?

No! We’d love to support your screening whether you want to book the film for the Congressional Women’s Caucus or for your monthly book club.

Is there a fee?

Yes. We calculate the fee based on a number of factors, including: is the event private, or open to the public? Do you plan on selling tickets? Which of our online platforms would you like to use? We are happy to offer discounts for educational institutions and smaller nonprofits. After you submit our screening inquiry form, we’ll get back to you to work through pricing details.

What kind of support does the fee cover?

Once you book your screening, we’ll provide you with a virtual screening toolkit, which includes the following:

  • A checklist to help you plan your event
  • Sample invitation language, social media graphics, and a link to our digital poster
  • A guide with questions to help spark your post-screening discussion

We’ll set you up on an online platform that will meet your event needs, whether it’s a private download you want to share with a group to watch on their own or a link that allows for everyone to watch and tune in together for discussion at a specific time.

Are members of the filmmaking team or subjects from the film available to speak?

Generally speaking, yes! We do ask for a small honorarium to be paid for their time, but if you are interested in booking someone from the film, please let us know and we’ll confirm their availability.
